WWDC 2023: The Main Announcements


The event was jam-packed with a myriad of product announcements and updates:

  1. iOS 17: Key updates include live transcriptions of calls, FaceTime messages, and a slew of upgrades to the Messages app, such as search filters, swipe to reply, and an updated design. Additional features include improved autocorrect, a new Journal app, Standby mode for iPhones, a revamp of the Hey Siri command, and updates to AirDrop​​.

  2. iPadOS 17: Updates here include the addition of widgets and new lock screens, a health app, expanded PDF support in the Notes app, and many features of iOS 17 being brought over to iPadOS 17. Live Activities on the lock screen are another noteworthy addition, allowing users to track scores, deliveries, and multiple timers​.

  3. macOS 14 Sonoma: This update brings a host of enhancements, including the ability to place widgets on the desktop, a game mode that prioritizes game performance, and a toolkit for porting games from other platforms. The conferencing and presenter overlay features have also been improved, and Safari now locks the browser window when not in use. A notable addition is the ability to create web apps from any website​.

  4. watchOS 10: This release sees comprehensive redesigns to the Apple Watch interface, with new features like the use of the Digital Crown to reveal widgets, redesigned trophy case, and new watch faces. New cycling features, hiking compass, and health features focusing on mental health were also added​.

  5. 15-inch MacBook Air: The new MacBook Air is thinner and lighter than ever before, boasting an M2 chip that provides a massive performance boost over its predecessor. The laptop is available in four colors, has a Liquid Retina display, and comes with an impressive 18-hour battery life​.

  6. Mac Studio and Mac Pro: These new machines are equipped with M2 Max and Ultra chips, providing a significant leap in performance. The new Mac Pro boasts 192GB of unified memory and built-in afterburner performance​.

  7. Vision Pro: This was the big surprise of the event, with Apple announcing its first spatial computing headset, the Vision Pro. However, I wasn't able to find specific details about the headset at this time​.
